RootsO-1

BIO:

Roots Odyssey is a seven-member reggae band hailing from O’ahu, Hawai’i which was formed in 1999 by founding members Kalei
Kahalewai and Tyson Chun. They first got together out of their mutual love for reggae music, and started rehearsing and soon
performing at all the hot local venues at that time. Their sound was meant to be a “journey through reggae music”, playing
everything from roots to lover’s rock to ska and even some dancehall. In 2000 they recorded a CD entitled “Moving Forward”
featuring ten original and two cover songs, and was co-produced by international reggae star Pato Banton, who guest stars on a
couple of the tracks. Their songs got airplay on all the local radio stations such as KCCNFM100 and Island98.5, and they were
soon opening for major reggae acts like Ky-mani Marley and Big Mountain. In 2001 their song “Spiritual War” was included on
the Grammy-nominated compilation CD entitled “Island Warriors”, which quickly shot up the Billboard World Music charts.

Over the years the members of Roots Odyssey have changed and the band actually went on an indefinite hiatus in 2005.
But in 2012 they decided to regroup and recorded a new single called “Baby Don’t Cry” at Bu-Print Studios, which is still
available on iTunes. Ready to hit the studio once again, stay tuned as Roots Odyssey gets set to take you on another
“journey through reggae music”!
